Medium amber with a light yellow edge. Buttery notes with almond and green tea essence. Dense up front fruit with a simple mid-palate and sweet, rich butterscotch and candied nut flavors. Very easy to drink now. The finish is long and the acidity stands up to the young intensity of flavor. Drink now or hold.
ROY HERSH, NEWSLETTER “FOR THE LOVE OF PORT”, 11/03/2005
"Deep, dark mahogany with yellow edge. Complex nose with molasses, dried fruit, caramel and cinnamon. Well rounded mouth with citrus, raisins. Elegant with fine balance. Persistent, long finish".
"Deep amber olive rim. Nuts, raisins, sweet. Fresh. Lemony but with a hot finish."
Warm, rich dark amber. Full dry bouquet, complex and showing spice, varnish and tar, along with caramel and orange zest. Well integrated and full flavours; intense and razor sharp acidity at front, leading to a mellow, rich and firm middle palate with massive length and a clean, zesty quite dry finish.
"Pronounced character; crisp, racy acidity. Lean, Sercial character. Strong minerality and baked apples. Long, intense and refreshing finish."
International Wine Challenge, 10/2007
“Made from noble Terrantez, which lends elegance and poise to the wine. Amber-hued, with ripe satsumas and orange zest on the nose. The palate is a beautiful combination of honeycomb, flowers, minerals and herbs. Concentrated, balanced and very, very long”.
Wine International, 10/2005
“Caramel color with a rose tint at the centrer. The initial impression is of a soft acidity and great balance and depth. Firm, nutty character with plenty of fruit”.
Lyn Farmer, The Wine News, 03/2001
Mellow amber and mahogany colour. Distinctive, warm bouquet which has powdery oak and zesty, grapey complexity. Palate entry is very sweet, narrow and concentrated leading to a more complex, ample, drier flavour of great finesse and elegance. Medium weight, firm acidity throughout and super length.
“This is a fine, classic Madeira with abundant nutty, caramelized fruit, and barley sugar notes of above average complexity. It is medium-sweet, showing well balanced alcohol and almost refreshing acidity, and lots of pecan pie flavour. Excellent length and delicate, refined styling. Drink or hold indefinitely.”
John Szabo, First in Line, 15/03/2008
"Muito afinado no aroma, muitas notas de compota, de mel, de especiarias doces como flor de anis, ligeiro ranço de muita qualidade. Muito elegante na boca, muito fresco e com uma acidez óptima, é um vinho de final longo e doce mas sem qualquer exagero de doçura, o que por vezes acontece nesta casta."
João Paulo Martins, Vinhos de Portugal 2010, 09/2009
“The nose is redolent of freshly baked, warm, spicy fruit dripping in golden syrup. The palate is lush, with a rich, fragrant, soft texture – impeccably balanced.”
Wine International, 10/1999

“MADEIRA’S I’M MAD FOR”
“My favourite five-year-old. The colour of iced tea, with the crisp smell and taste of the first fall apple”.
Pete Wells, Food and Wine, 11/1998
Delicious ripe and concentrated toffee caramel nose leadking to a clean palate of smoky mint and banana with hints of honey and almonds. Good acidity and a long finish.
International Wine Challenge, 05/2009
“Deep brown with amber highlights. Moderately full-bodied. Medium sweetness. Chocolate, orange-peel, cinnamon aromas with woody notes translate on to a thick viscous mouthfeel kept in great balance by full acidity. Long spicy finish. Vibrant character keep the palate fresh”.
Wine Enthusiast, 2000
Beautiful amber colour with a lighter yellow rim. Intense citrus aromas on the nose backed by warming spices of cinnamon and touches of vanilla. Full long mouthfeel with hints of dried apricot, lemon peel and vanilla that build in the mouth and linger on. An absolute beauty.
“Majestic . . . . . . . luscious, fragrant, full-bodied raisin fruit is the bottle to splash out on”.
Jane MacQuitty, The Times, 2000
"Tawny, gold colour; sweet, quite luscious. Lively acidity; balanced and powerful, with a long, clean finish."
International Wine Challenge, 10/2007
"As warmer weather approaches, this is a wine that should immediately come to mind at apéritif time. This bone-dry style, with its inimitable nutty character, is so fresh, so vibrant. It has some tannis, enlivening acidity giving a great lift at the end. Bring on the freshly salted, roasted almonds."
Roger Voss, Wine Enthusiast, 15/12/2008
"Dark amber/bronze with yellow/green rim. Magnificent nose crammed full of citrus, vanilla, herbs, cinnamon, coffee and dried apricot. With some sweet floral notes in the background. All follows through into an intense, full flavoured mouth with mellow texture and velvet flow. Magnificent, everlasting finish."
